The film "Helen Verran: To set museum visitors thinking" is one of 15 interview films presenting the thinking of active contributors as well as visitors of the conference „Museums in Motion: Colonial and Postcolonial Encounters“, that took place at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (Cologne) in July 2019. As the conference did, the film addresses the growing public awareness of colonial violence and historical injustice that has put ethnographic collections into the spotlight of social and political debates. It discusses the challenges to decolonize exhibition practices and contributes to the current debates about entangled histories, systematic exclusions, plural ontologies, necessary restitution and repatriation.
